Face

The face stands for the self that others see — reputation and standing. A bright face with good color is a good omen of recognition and of matters going well, and seeing your own face clearly in a mirror means you are seeing your position as it is. A face distorted or unrecognizable, by contrast, signals that how you appear to others feels burdensome, and covering your face means there is something you would rather not show.

The face is the part of yourself you see least and the part others see first. Traditional reading took complexion as a person’s vitality and separated the meanings by whether the face was bright or dark. Physiognomy too treats the face as where circumstances show.

Readings by Situation

A bright face with good colour

A good sign of being recognised and of things going well. Tradition read a bright complexion as vitality on the rise. If you have to stand before people, this reads well.

A dark or damaged face

This reflects worry about your reputation. Tradition read a damaged face as a signal to check your body and energy. If fatigue has genuinely built up, look at that first.

Washing or grooming your face

A sign of starting fresh. Tradition read washing the face as shaking off what has gone stale. It is also read as reshaping a relationship.

A face that is unfamiliar, or someone else’s

The feeling that your present place is not really you. It comes up when your role and your actual mind are out of step. Rather than a bad omen, take it as a call to see what you are hiding.

Face dreams are often scenes drawn by wondering how others see you. A damaged face does not fix anything bad in place. Still, if your body has genuinely run down, rest comes first.
