Being Afraid

Fear is the shadow of an anxiety you have not yet faced. What frightened you is the key: naming it shrinks the fear noticeably. Being chased or hiding means there is something you are avoiding, and being frightened by something formless signals vague worry accumulating. If frightening dreams repeat and cost you sleep, though, sleep and fatigue deserve attention before interpretation.

Frightening dreams tend to cluster in the small hours, when sleep runs shallow. What stays after waking is the feeling rather than the scene, so the kind of fear is easier to name than what you saw. Traditional reading too did not treat being startled as purely ill-omened.

Readings by Situation

Fearing something you cannot identify

A sign of a worry that has not taken shape yet. Writing down what nags at you cuts it down to size. Tradition too took recognising it as the first step to loosening it.

Running away in fear

A sign that there is something you are avoiding. If the chased feeling was strong, what you deferred has grown heavy. Read it as a call to start with something small.

Being afraid but facing it

A good omen of getting past the fear. Tradition too read facing and winning as favourable. If you have made up your mind about something, it is time to push.

Too afraid to make a sound

A sign that you are not saying what you want to say. Read it as a place where you are being pressed down. It also comes up often when your sleep is rough.

A frightening dream does not forecast anything bad. Still, if it repeats and costs you sleep, rest matters more than interpretation. If the weight lasts, talk to someone qualified.
