Egg

An egg stands for potential and new life. Obtaining one means the fortune of a small thing growing large — investment and opportunity — and a basket full of eggs means you have prepared along several lines. A chick hatching means what you were preparing finally shows itself. An egg breaking, by contrast, reads as bringing out a plan that had not yet ripened.

An egg broken from the outside is finished; broken from the inside, it is born. Traditional reading took the egg as a symbol of small things growing large and read gaining one as opportunity. Breaking reads differently.

Readings by Situation

Gaining eggs, or a basket full of them

A good omen of something small growing large. Tradition read a held egg as wealth still to grow. If you are preparing something, this reads well.

Something hatching from an egg

A sign that what you prepared is coming to light. Tradition read hatching as fruition. If you have kept something hidden for a long time, the time has come.

An egg breaking

A sign that something not yet ripe is being spoiled. Read it as losing out by rushing. It is not a forecast of failure, though; take it as a call to slow down.

Eating an egg

A sign of taking energy in. Tradition read eating an egg as a solid, practical addition. When it comes while your body is tired, it is also a sign to rest.

Eggs are a symbol of possibility and read broadly well. One breaking does not mean your plans come apart. Some readings treat them as conception dreams, but judge that by circumstances.
