A tongue moving smoothly is a good omen that persuasion lands and that words earn you something — favorable before an interview or a negotiation. Biting your tongue, or finding no words, signals that you are swallowing something you need to say, while a lengthening tongue was long read as a caution that words are running ahead of you. If gossip is a worry, it means say less.

A sign that you are not saying what you should. Tradition too read a stiffened tongue as a time when intent is blocked. If you have deferred a conversation, it points there.
Biting or injuring your tongue
This reflects worry about a slip of the tongue. Tradition read a harmed tongue as a signal to guard your mouth. It is not a forecast that this will actually happen.
Being bothered by someone else’s talk
A sign that talk around you is on your mind. Tradition read this as gossip. Rather than something to fear, though, read it as a call not to pass words along.
